The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines Stewardship as “the conducting, supervising, or managing of something, especially: the careful and responsible management of something entrusted to one’s care.”
At UUFCO, we recognize that Stewardship is taking care of what we value: each other, our children, our programs, our facility, and our community; through our Stewardship, we aspire to create a safe community where all are supported to grow.
In the spirit of reciprocity, we invite ourselves to consider how our lives have been enriched by this faith community and then give in deep gratitude for that which we have received. As Stewards, we embrace the joy of giving, and take responsibility to generously contribute our time, talent, and treasure.
Annual Pledge Campaign
We conduct an annual congregational pledge drive, during which we ask each family to make a financial commitment to contribute some amount over the course of the coming fiscal year to keep UUFCO and its ministries and programs healthy and sustainable. This is all part of an ongoing effort to practice “stewardship.”
Q: What is the Annual Pledge?
A: An “Annual Pledge of Record” is your commitment of financial support for UUFCO, in any fiscal year. Pledges may be made as an individual, couple or as a family. Most members and friends set up a monthly payment schedule to spread out their payments over the year.
Q: Why is it important?
A: Just like your family, UUFCO needs to know how much income to expect in the coming year so that we can responsibly prepare our operating budget for programs, operations, administration, and facility. Your pledge commitment enables us to plan for our expenses for the fiscal year. We receive these gifts gratefully, and we dedicate them to the work of our congregation: welcoming the stranger and upholding religious freedom; honoring human wholeness and caring for our planet. Together, we seek to serve with ever-greater love.
Q: How much should I/we pledge?
A: Amounts vary depending upon your income and financial situation. We encourage you to consider your contribution as a percentage of your adjusted gross income, taking into account your ability to pay and the financial needs of UUFCO.
Q: Are there suggested guidelines?
A: The Fair Share Giving Guide may assist you in formulating the amount you wish to pledge this year. Suggested amounts are based on adjusted gross income and monthly contributions. (See pledge brochure during the campaign.)
Q: What percentage of UUFCO’s income is composed of pledges?
A: Pledges contribute approximately 70% to our annual income.
Q: Does everyone make a pledge?
A. Making a pledge of any amount is an integral part of being a member of UUFCO to help sustain the programs and ministries of our fellowship. It is a primary responsibility.
How to Donate to UUFCO
Please fill out a pledge form online anytime or on a pledge card available at the kiosk during the drive.
On Sundays: Simply place cash or checks in the offering basket. In order to receive credit as a pledge or donation, include your name and address on the check and place it in an envelope stating how you want the funds applied—as a pledge or other donation. This is necessary for tax purposes.
By Mail: Mail your donation to the office at 61980 Skyline Ranch Road, Bend, OR 97703. Be sure to include your name and address on the check or envelope so that donation credit may be provided for tax purposes. Please designate whether this a pledge payment or other contribution.
Online Giving: Contributions may be paid with a credit/debit card or via ACH Bank Transfer from your bank account. (Use dropdown menu in upper right corner of form.) Contributing directly from your checking has advantages for both UUFCO and the donor. You can set up online payments as a one time or as a recurring gift. Online giving is not only easy, but safe and secure.
Non-Cash Gifts of Securities and Other Liquid Assets: If you wish to contribute stocks or mutual funds, you will receive a tax deduction for the fair market value of your securities at the time of donation, and will pay no capital gains tax on the difference between your cost and the fair market value. Contact your broker with your intentions for an appropriate form. Complete and return it to your broker by mail or email in order to authorize the transfer. Please contact the Bookkeeper or Treasurer of UUFCO and inform them about the transfer and how you want the funds applied.
Non-Cash Gifts of Tangible, Non-Liquid Property: If you wish to contribute other types of real property to the church, such as art, old computers, furniture, cars or any other physical asset that is not readily convertible to cash, please fill out the Tangible Gift Form, so that we can make sure it is in the best interests of both you and the fellowship to accept this gift.
Estate Planning: The congregation has established an Endowment Fund. You can continue to strengthen our financial foundation by designating UUFCO in your will. Please call the church office to set up an appointment to meet with a member of the Endowment Fund committee to discuss your intention to leave a financial legacy to your spiritual home.
