UUFCO offers a variety of ways to help our community.
Recently, the Social Action committee met to discuss ideas for upcoming
Social Action events, including:
- Continuing the road cleanup project, the next one to be done in the
Spring - Grace Kennedy will coordinate this project.
- Investigating how we might continue any involvement with The Bethlehem
Inn.
- Becky Dobrowski has agreed to be our liaison with Habitat for Humanity.
Our members and friends currently volunteer the second Tuesday each month to prepare lunch for the Habitat workers.
- Maintaining and nurturing our relationship with the Human Dignity
Coalition - Bill Herz will be our liaison
- Other possible future projects - Earth Day participation, create
a banner which can be used outdoors for marches, parades and outdoor booths etc
- Staying alert to issues which arise in our community and be prepared
to respond.
The committee will guide the fellowship in where to put our Social
Action energy, but everyone is encouraged to participate.
If you have any questions, concerns or ideas please contact
us.
Past and Future
Efforts
Adopt-a-Road
The Fellowship has adopted a stretch of Skyliner's Road just West of Bend. In exchange for
twice-annual road cleanup (which we turn into a fun activity), the Fellowship has its name on an adopt-a-road sign.
Social Justice
The Fellowship's Board and many of its members have taken a vocal position in favor of the
Anti-Discrimination ordinance recently adopted by the Bend City Council.
COCAAN and COBRA Donations
The Fellowship regularly provides drop-off baskets and wish lists for both the Central Oregon
Community Action Network (COCAAN) and the Central Oregon Battering and Rape Alliance (COBRA). If you know of other worthy
local charities, don't hesitate to make their needs known and organize a collection!
Bethlehem Inn
The Social Action Committee held a fundraiser in support of the Bethlehem Inn, a local homeless
shelter.
